New Executive Board Installed For Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NVAC) recently installed its executive board for 2012.
Members of the board are Kris Peterson, chief; Sharon McCarthy, assistant chief; Marty Folan, secretary/treasurer; and Liz Cain and Mike Collins, members at large.
NVAC provides emergency care and transport to the hospital when anyone in Newtown is sick or injured. Presently the corps has 73 active members, who volunteered 30,248 hours in 2011. During that same time, NVAC members responded to 2,252 emergency calls.
Wesley Yllanes was named Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps Top Responder for 2011. Mr Yllanes was recognized as the top responder after volunteering 1,540 hours as an EMT for NVAC.
âThe upcoming year will be one of many challenges,â stated Kris Peterson, the newly elected chief of NVAC. âOur call volume is increasing, as well as the demands on our organization. Weâre fortunate to have such dedicated individuals in the corps to provide this service to Newtown.
âOur major task this year,â she continued, âis finalizing the lease with the town for our new and larger building proposed for a site on the Fairfield Hills campus and starting the construction. This is long overdue. Our current location has served us well in the past, but its infrastructure and space limitations have precluded the expansion and upgrading we need to better serve the town of Newtown.â
Anyone interested in volunteering in a medical or nonmedical capacity with NVAC is invited to contact the corps at 203-270-4380, visit its website at NewtownAmbulanceCT.org, or visit its facility at 77 Main Street.
