Weller Foundation

Scholarship Available

WOODBURY — The Weller Foundation, Inc (formerly the Vitramon Foundation, Inc) has announced that full-time senior students from Newtown, Joel Barlow, Masuk, Shelton, and Trumbull schools may now submit applications for this year’s Vincent Voccia Vocational Award.

The award is named for a former trustee of the Vitramon Foundation, Inc. The Voccia Award will provide financial assistance to one student from each of the five high schools who has selected a vocational-technical career and will shortly enter vocational training.

Alexander Fraser, foundation trustee and coordinator of the program, said the award recipients will be eligible for a grant equal to the lesser of $2,500 or 50 percent of the tuition cost of the vocational program proposed.

Applicants must be full-time students at Newtown, Masuk, Trumbull, Joel Barlow, or Shelton High School at the time the award is made and must not be a relative of a trustee of The Weller Foundation, Inc. Applicants must be US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents.

The applicant shall demonstrate interest and talent in his or her chosen field, and must be able to satisfy the admission requirements of the school selected. Any qualified student who submits an application will be considered for the award.

Applications for the award must be received by March 21 at their respective high school guidance department. A minimum of three qualified applications is necessary for each high school to select one award recipient. The award recipient will be announced on or about April 2.

Students interested in applying for the award can obtain full details and an application form the guidance department.

The award is named in memory of Vincent A. Voccia, who served as a trustee of the foundation before he died in 1980.
