Moms Groups: Still a few openings! Newborn to 12 Months â Tuesdays, 10:30 to 11:30 am; Walkers to 18 months â Thursdays, 10:30 to 11:30 am. These groups run for ten weeks and the cost is $25.

Gym Time will begin meets Wednesdays from 10 am to 12 pm; cost is $30.

Moms of Multiples will meet next on Friday, February 18, at the Methodist Church Hall from 10 to 11 am. Meetings are held monthly. There is no charge for this group. Please call to register for all above groups.

Parents Groups

Newtown Parent Connection â âIf You Love Me, Why Donât You Listen to Me?â is the next Parent Connection forum on Tuesday, February 15, at 7 pm, in the Newtown Middle School auditorium. Cher Shannon, MHSA, LADC will be the presented.

Hope Support Group â Parents with questions or concerns about their childâs possible or confirmed involvement with substances are invited to attend the Hope Support Group. Meetings are Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm in the Parentsâ Corner. All are Welcome.

Youth Programs

Community Service Learning Program â Make a difference in your community and build service hours while you have fun! Two exciting programs are starting soon at Newtown Middle School: Your Community Environment and Community Building. Choose one or both! Mandatory meeting is Tuesday, February 15, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm at Newtown Middle School. After Winter Break, meetings will be held on alternate Tuesdays. To register, call NYS by February 11.

Super Sitters â Next session will be held on Wednesdays, March 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30, from 3:15 to 4:45 pm. Cost is $40, which includes all materials and snack. These classes tend to fill up quickly so register soon!

HSYAB will meet on Monday, February 7 at 5:30 pm.

NYCAAP â AIDS awareness group for high school students â Meets Wednesdays at 7:30 pm at NYS.

Children of Divorce â Grades 1 through 6, meets first and third Monday of the month. Due to Winter Break, this group will meet only meet once, February 7, from 6 to 7:15 pm. This is an interactive group using tools such as art therapy and games. Please call for further information.

SibShops â Grades 1 through 6. Usually meets the last Monday of the month from 5 to 7 pm. The next meeting will be February 28 and is ongoing through May.

There is no fee for either Children of Divorce or SibShops.

Budget should be cut by 20%, spending $2.65 million dollars per every week forever is absolutely unsustainable ! Do everything possible to Vote No on another nonsensical attempt to increase the cost of living ! Taxpayers are honestly just renting their houses from the town, it costs me $40 every night to sleep in my own bed ! Soon it will be cheaper living in a hotel than owning a property in Newtown !

Finance Board Moves $1 Million From Education Budget

I went and complaint to Rosenthall's father that the budget was too high at $80M several years ago, now we are at almost $140M . $2.65 million per week that is ! Fairfield hills should have long been developed by investors money and bring revenue to the town. WE ARE DRIVING OURSELVES OUT OF NEWTOWN by doing this and constantly raising the cost of living. It makes zero sense, any extra budget money gets burned on stupid stuff just so they can ask for more next year. Put an END TO THIS STUPIDITY and CUT THE BUDGET 20%. Everyone will be just fine ! Kids won't get any smarter anyway. That's an honest reality !

Why You Should Not Vote For The BOE Budget

Any common sensical person can do this job at under 100k salary. Way overhyped and overpaid at over $200k annual salary. We as voters have to put an end to this. Not to mention an assistant comes along with this job paid at 190k! What is wrong with you voters?

Difficult To Vote For BOE Budget Without Specifics

The entire budget needs to be cut not raised. The proposed budget now would sit that we spend $2.65 million dollars every week. For population of less than 30k people it is absolutely absurd ! You cannot keep driving older folks out of town just to create a revolving door of parents who come here, educate their kids and run away ! There is no need to be paying 190K annual salary to an ASSISTANT to superintendent, not in the best interest of tax payers ! The voting turnout at 9% is ridiculous ! Lobby lawmakers to change the voting by mail, so everyone gets a ballot in the mail and at least 51% of residents vote to approve, otherwise the budget should not be approved if you don't have the majority ! Most folks don't even know when the vote is ! They have taxes bundled with mortgage and don't even know ! We are raising cost of living for everyone and it is absolutely not necessary.
