NHS Track Teams Gear Up For Championships

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ indoor track teams will participate in the South-West Conference Championships in New Haven this Saturday, February 6.

Several Nighthawks either qualified for the Class LL state championships or improved their qualifying times at the Doug Sharples Invitational on January 29 as follows:

Reagan Cerney, 300, 43.65; Lauren Petinelli, 300, 45.70; Brittany Tolla, 300, 44.39; Erin Begg, 1000, 3:19.90 and  3200, 12:26.79; Katie Burns, 3200, 12:27.47; Jenny VanVeen, 1000, 3:25.26 and 3200, 12:39.45; Ken Toal, 300, 39.30; Jake Feinstein, 1600, 4:43.14; 3200, 10:18.80; Ben Miles, 300, 39.68; Austin Puleri, high jump, 5-08.00; Shane Casey, long jump, 18-09.5.

Cerney’s 300 time set a new school record. Puleri’s high jump mark ties the boys’ indoor school record. He shares it with Kevin Bonacci (2009) and with Rich Frankonis (1988).
