Police Union Seeks Public Support For
Fund Drive
The Newtown Police Union, Local #3153 of the Connecticut Council of Police Unions, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), is conducting its annual fundraiser.
All local residents will receive a letter in the mail concerning the fundraising project, according to police Officer Andrew Stinson, who is the union president.
Officer Stinson asked that residents show their support of local enforcement personnel through contributions to the union.
Officer Stinson said that the union supports various local organizations and worthy causes. These include: Newtown High School athletic programs, local youth athletic programs, local scholarship funds, the American Heart Association, the Special Olympics Torch Run, The US Marine Corps Reserveâs Toys For Tots Program, the Newtown Parent Connection, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), Newtownâs Relay For Life, various holiday food drives, and the annual Halloween trick-or-trick activity on Main Street.
Officer Stinson said that the fundraising project is conducted by the police union itself, not by a paid soliciting firm.
