Longtime Sandy

Hook Resident

Margaret H. McDermott, 87, of Sandy Hook died February 3 at Danbury Hospital. Mrs McDermott was the wife of the late Joseph T. McDermott. She was born in Toledo, Ohio, on December 14, 1921, a daughter of Alfred and Anna (Waldron) Kussel.

Mrs McDermott was a resident of Sandy Hook for 25 years and was a member of the Newtown Woman’s Club. She previously resided in Westchester County, N.Y., and before retirement was a sales clerk for Saks Fifth Avenue Department Store.

She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Koestner of Sandy Hook and Roberta McDermott of Hastings on Hudson, N.Y.; a brother, Thomas Kussel of Florida; two sisters, Edith Steinmates of California and Ethel Scalia of Maryland; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Eric Koestner of Sandy Hook.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 7, at 9 am, from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at 9:30 am in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, N.Y. Calling hours are scheduled for Friday, February 6, from 6 to 8 pm.
