Antiques Appraisals

& Silent Auction

WOODBURY — Pomperaug Valley Garden Club will sponsor an antiques appraisals and silent auction fundraising event, called “Treasure Hunt,” on March 13.

The event will feature Bernie McManus, a local antiques and fine arts consultant and appraiser, who will give evaluations of family treasures and keepsakes. The public is invited to bring up to two items to be verbally appraised for $5 each.

Additionally, there will be a silent auction of carefully selected, donated items of various shapes, sizes and value. While the value of each item in the silent auction will be stated, there will be a low reserve.

Treasure Hunt will be held at Woodbury Senior/Community Center, 265 Main Street South (Route 6). Doors will open at 10:30 am for the silent auction and Mr McManus will be available to offer his verbal appraisals from 10:30 until noon.

Bernie McManus is the former owner of Woodbury House Antiques. He has been a professional appraiser of all periods of antiques, fine arts, and old and rare books for more than 40 years. He has conducted appraisals for clients and estates throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, as well as in Florida, Michigan and the US Virgin Islands.

Ms McManus has also been an adjunct professor at C.W. Post College, Long Island University, lecturing on antique furniture and decorative arts. He has additionally served as president of Woodbury Business Association and Connecticut Antiques Dealers Association.

Proceeds from this event will be used for various outreach programs including materials for making holiday wreaths for town buildings, and maintaining planters and gardens in public areas throughout Woodbury.
