Occupation: I’m primarily a stay-at-home mom, but for eight years I’ve been an independent rep for Premier Designs Jewelry, selling high fashion jewelry of all kinds.

Family: My husband is Paul, and he owns Country Colors Painting, his own business. We have three children. Henry is 9, Emma is 7½, and Jack is 3½ years old.

Pets: We just got a puppy for Christmas. Jedi is a golden labradoodle that we rescued from a shelter in Granville when he was very tiny. We can’t wait for those puppy teeth to fall out! And we have two fishbowls on the kitchen counter.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have been here for ten years. We lived in Milford before that, on the beach.

What do you like to do in your free time? I am in the PM Newcomer’s Book Club, which I love. I joined just a year ago and the ladies are so nice. I’ve just started knitting, and am enjoying that. We like to get out and walk now, especially with the puppy. Jack is a golfer, so we’re often out in the backyard golfing with the real clubs he got from Santa. And I like spending time with my friends, when I can fit it in.

Do you have a favorite author? I do really like Diana Gabaldon, the author of The Outlander series. I definitely prefer fiction, but with the club, I’ve been branching out and reading things I would not have read before.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We go to Cape Cod in the summer and I love it, especially with the kids at this age. We rent a whole house and have been to a couple of different spots on the Cape.

What is the best thing about Newtown? There are a lot of good things. Definitely it is the people and the feeling of community. But it’s really our neighbors. With the two power outages last fall, we took turns cooking on each other’s grills. I can call my neighbors my friends, and I love that.

Who has been the greatest influence on your life? Probably my mom. She is just such a strong woman. She got a full time job at GE, and then went back to school and got her law degree when she was in her 50s. She’s amazing. She never stops. She’s always taking classes and never stops learning. Seeing how strong she was during difficult times has been an encouragement to me. She stands up for what she believes in.

Do you have a personal philosophy? I believe there’s always a bright side to things. I try to see the good in everything — people and situations.

Do you have a guilty pleasure? Taking time to go and get my nails done. Stealing that little bit of time to do something for myself feels guilty. Or curling up with a book when Jack is napping, instead of doing the dishes.
