Sandy Hook Man Arrested On Theft Charges
SOUTHBURY â Southbury police report they arrested a Sandy Hook man this week in connection with his alleged mid-December theft of a debit card from an elderly Southbury man who would later be one of the five people to die in a Christmas morning house fire in Stamford.
Southbury police said they arrested Raymond Page, Jr, 37, of 56 Walnut tree Hill Road, Sandy Hook, on a warrant at about 5 pm on February 28, charging him with theft of a credit/debit card, three counts of illegal use of a credit/debit card, and three counts of sixth-degree larceny.
The victim of the theft was Lomer Johnson, 71, of Heritage Village in Southbury.
State police spokesman Lieutenant J. Paul Vance said that Pageâs alleged theft of Johnsonâs debit card occurred while both men were inside a TD Bank branch office in Southbury on December 12.
Page then allegedly illegally used Johnsonâs debit card three times on December 12, according to Southbury police.
On Christmas morning, Johnson, his wife, Pauline, 69, and their three granddaughters, who were 7-year-old twins Grace and Sarah; and Lily, age 9, died when the house they occupied accidentally caught fire.
Two people survived that fire, Madonna Badger, who was the three girlsâ mother, and Badgerâs friend, Michael Borcina. The fire has received national attention.
Southbury police said that Page was released from custody on February 28 on $10,000 bail and is scheduled for arraignment on the seven charges on March 8 in Waterbury Superior Court.
