Torpedoes Continue Postseason In League Championships

The Newtown Torpedoes swim team continued action in the Yankee League Championships this past weekend (the youngest swimmers competed the previous weekend), and finished in fourth place. Watertown, with 1,970.5 points, won the meet. West Haven scored 1,641, Bristol had 1,182, and Newtown 799.5.

The Torpedoes had five individual first-place finishes (Gianna Terracino, 9-10 year olds 50 Freestyle, Caroline Beal, 11-12 year olds 50 Backstroke, Peter Fagerholm, 11-12 year olds 200 Individual Medley, Matthew Kretz, 11-12 year olds 50 Breaststroke, and Annika Fagerholm, 13-14 year olds 100 Breaststroke), along with a pair of first-place relay teams (Boys 11-12 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle).

The Boys 11-12 group (Peter Fagerholm, Layton Harrell, Matthew Kretz, Ben Marini, Jacob Steinebrey, Nikhil Trivedi) won the league top point total award for their age group.

In addition, 15 swimmers in the 9 and older category qualified for the League All-Star competition next week: Caroline Beal, Christopher Beal, Julia DiMartino, Bridget Duero, Peter Fagerholm, Kristina Goeree, Owen Gray, Layton Harrell, Grace Ann Herrick, Casey Klein, Matthew Kretz, Emily Papp, Jacob Steinebrey, Benjamin Talbot, and Gianna Terracino.
