Nature Walks At Flanders

WOODBURY – Flanders Nature Center & Land Trust is once again offering “Wednesday Wanderings” with naturalist and local resident Ronnie Kamphausen. Walks will continue until April and each features a different nature-related topic.

A variety of sights and sounds await walkers as they explore the trails of Flanders. One recent outing had participants hearing a frozen pond groan and moan with the weight of ice, finding footprints of birds and animals in the snow, and observing trees arched with snow.

These wanderings are aimed as exercises in exploring the natural world and where taking photographs, stopping, sketching or exploring whatever suits one’s interest are encouraged. Surprises from the beauty and diversity of the season are there to be absorbed, as well as the obvious benefits of walking.

All ages are invited to join the group which meets each Wednesday at 9:30 am at Flanders’ Sugar House parking area, located on Church Hill Road, off Flanders Road from Route 6 in Woodbury.

Walkers are urged to dress appropriately for the weather and varied walking terrains, where oftentimes a stretch of bushwhacking is encountered.

Call Flanders for additional information or on the morning of a walk if weather is questionable; 203-263-3711.
