Olive Carrie Lawlor, age 81, died on March 15, 2023, in Danbury Hospital due to complications of stroke.

Born February 7, 1942, in Norwalk Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Flora and Oliver Smith. She was one of five siblings.

Olive was anti-retirement. She continued to be a hair dresser, bookkeeper for the family car repair business, and full time caretaker of her husband, John, until the end of her life. Olive married her high school sweetheart who convinced her to take up all sorts of hobbies like dirt bike riding in Vermont, boating on their beloved Long Island Sound, sporting clays shooting, and of course home remodeling. Like her mother before her, Olive was always in motion and caring for others was her life’s purpose. Fiercely loyal and dedicated to her family, Olive was quick to laugh and brought a positive energy to everything she touched. Her loved ones could not ask for a better example of a devoted and loving mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her loving husband John; son David; daughter Coleen Shea and her husband, Jim Shea; sister Eleanor Moisio and her husband, Alan Moisio; and beloved grandchildren, Olivia Lawlor, Rachel Lawlor, Zoe Shea, and Isabel Shea.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother, James Edgar Smith; and her sisters, Lois Lulu Smith and Eugenia Zoe Pidala.

A memorial will be held at 11 am, March 26, at the Walnut Tree Village Clubhouse, 68 Elizabeth Circle, Sandy Hook, Conn.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Olive’s name to Save the Sound, savethesound.org.
