Where Do You Find Happiness Now?

The governor last week announced a directive ordering residents across this state to “Stay Safe — Stay At Home” for a period of 30 days, beginning at 8 pm, Monday, March 23.

The move came as the state continued to deal with growing numbers of cases, and deaths, from COVID-19. The pandemic has forced countless “nonessential” businesses to shutter until further notice, while government officials continue to stress the importance of social distancing.

The governor’s directive came after nearly a week of school already being out; the town library and community center, among other facilities, closing until further notice; the municipal center being open only by appointment; and even the police department adopting new protocols in order to keep officers and staff from getting ill.

With such constrictions in place, how are people staying positive these days?

We want to hear from Newtown Bee readers on this subject.

Was it the first day of spring? Is it the sight of crocuses and daffodils popping up? Was it the unexpected snow on Monday that stuck around longer than initially expected?

Are you turning to the Bible? Are you reading a new book? Rereading an old favorite?

Is poetry your jam? Are you writing? Drawing? Doing something otherwise artistic?

Is there some early spring cleaning happening at your house that makes you happy? Are you building something?

Whatever it is, we would like to hear from readers. We will be collecting submissions through Friday, April 3, through e-mail and USPS mail.

Send notes and photos to shannon@thebee.com with the Subject Line: Finding Happiness Under Quarantine; or to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470.
