Families, friends, teachers, and service providers of people with autism will join together at the breakfast to learn more about the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) and its fourth annual fundraising walk set for June 12. The primary mission of NAAR is to fund biomedical research that seeks to find the causes, prevention, treatment, and cure for the autism spectrum disorders.
The kickoff breakfast for the Fairfield County and Westchester County communities is free and open to the public. The guest speaker will be international model and autism funding advocate Patti Hansen, who lives in Weston. Reservations are strongly advised by calling 203-552-8980.
April is Autism Awareness Month. Approximately 1 million people in the United States are affected with some form of autism. The disorder occurs in an estimated one in every 166 children, making it the second most common developmental disability. There is no specific medical treatment or cure for autism.
