Dog Violations

On the morning of March 26, police charged Joanne Osmolik, 45, of 277 South Main Street with multiple dog violations stemming from an incident last September 7 at 23 Pond Brook Road.

Police said they charged Osmolik on a Danbury Superior Court arrest warrant after she failed to respond to an infraction ticket concerning those dog violations last September.

Police said that last September 7, Osmolik had allowed three dogs to roam. Also, all four of Osmolik’s dogs were unlicensed and did not have current rabies vaccinations, police said.

Police said they charged Osmolik with failure to respond to an infraction. They also charged her again with four counts of failure to license a dog, with four counts of failure to vaccinate a dog against rabies, and with three counts of allowing a dog to roam.

After posting $500 bail, police released Osmolik for an April 12 court appearance.

Rearrest Warrant

At 10 am on March 24, police rearrested Matthew Gilmartin, 46, of New Milford, charging him with second degree failure to appear in court and with disorderly conduct.

Police said Gilmartin had failed to appear in Danbury Superior Court on March 1 in connection with his being charged with disorderly conduct last November 1 at an address on Baldwin Road.

After processing the case, police released Gilmartin on $500 bail for a March 28 court appearance.

DUI Charge

Police said that at about 2 am on March 27, they spotted motorist David E. Farrell, 47, of Bethel crossing over into the opposite travel lane on Route 25 near the police station. Police said they then stopped Farrell in front of the police station to investigate.

Following field sobriety testing, police charged Farrell with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right.

After posting $150 bail, police released Farrell to answer the charges at an April 5 court appearance.

VW Into Tree

Motorist Jorge Portillo, 39, of Danbury was driving a 1995 Volkswagen Jetta westward on Castle Meadow Road about 4:37 pm March 25, when he drove off the westbound road shoulder and hit a tree, police said.

Portillo was not injured. Police charged him with driving while under suspension and making a restricted turn. Portillo was released for an April 8 court appearance on the charges.

SUV Goes Off Road

Motorist James Schachtel, 37, of 32 Barnabas Road, who was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon sport-utility vehicle eastward on Blackman Road about 8:10 pm March 23, slid on some snow and went off the eastbound road shoulder, police report.

Schachtel was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction ticket for traveling too fast for conditions.

Snowstorm Crash

While driving a 1995 Dodge Intrepid southward near 208 Brushy Hill Road during a snowstorm about 9:13 pm March 23, motorist Adam Prokop, 21, of 2 White Oak Farm Road slid on the snowy road, went off the southbound road shoulder and collided with a utility pole, police said.

Prokop was not injured. Utility repair work required that a section of Brushy Hill Road be closed to traffic for several hours, police said.

Police gave Prokop a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sedan Vs SUV

About 9 am March 21, motorist Lori Ann Thompson, 41, of 50 Cobblers Mill Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot sport-utility vehicle on westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 off-ramp, stopped for a red traffic signal at the end of the ramp, police said.

Motorist Alison Kukla, 52, of 21 Cobblers Mill Road, who as driving a 2003 Infiniti I-35 sedan, braked, but struck the rear end of the Honda, police report. There were no injuries.

Police issued Kukla a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sugar Street DUI

About 7 pm March 27, motorist Catherine M. Lovig-Hansen, 62, of 42 Aunt Park Lane, who was driving westward on Sugar Street, was observed swerving and crossing into the eastbound lane, police said.

Police said they stopped Lovig-Hansen to investigate, after which they charged her with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right. Police released her on $50 bail for an April 7 court appearance.

Attempted Burglaries

Sometime between March 18 and 27, someone attempted to break into two houses in the Hanover Road/Echo Valley Road area, police said. The would-be burglar attempted to break into the houses via locked windows and locked doors, police said.

Police ask anyone who noticed suspicious activity in that area during that period to contact them at 426-5841.

Pontiac Rollover

State police report that motorist Stanley Bruno, 19, of Stamford, who was driving a 2005 Pontiac Vibe westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, at about 6:20 am March 26, fell asleep at the wheel and then drove into the median guardrail.

The impact caused the vehicle to roll over onto the highway, state police said. Pontiac passenger Job Bruno, 17, of Stamford received a cut hand, but refused medical attention, state police said. State police said Stanley Bruno failed to stay in the established lane.

Three Vehicles

State police report an accident involving two trucks and an auto about 7:30 pm March 25 on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 13.

State police said motorist James Burns, 83, of 4 Woodbine Lane was driving a 2004 Ford Focus in the road’s center lane.

Trucker John Potts III, 41, of Accord, N.Y., who was driving a 1997 Ford tanker truck in the left lane, then changed lanes and collided with the Focus, state police said.

After that impact, the Focus spun into the left lane and was struck from behind by trucker James Staaf, 45, of Hanover, Penn., who was driving a 2005 International truck in the left lane, state police said. Burns received a cut hand in the accident, but refused medical attention, state police said.

State police said Potts made an unsafe lane change.

Two Trucks

State police report an accident involving two tractor-trailer trucks on eastbound Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of Exit 10, at about 3:24 am March 24.

Trucker David Boisvert, 49, of Feeding Hills, Mass., was driving a 2001 Mack in the right lane, as trucker George E. Zitzmann, Jr, 51, of Naugatuck was driving a 1997 Mack in the left lane, state police said.

The 1997 Mack slowed for traffic ahead and swerved to the right, colliding with the 2001 Mack, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Zitzmann failed to stay in the established lane. 

Two Warrants

After learning that Danbury Superior Court had issued two warrants for the arrest of Richard Pulver, 19, of 22 Washington Avenue, police went to his residence on the night of March 28 to serve those warrants.

Police charged Pulver with two counts of violation of probation, and one count each of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrests stem from previous marijuana possession charges that were filed against Pulver in September and March of 2004, police said.

Police held Pulver on $50,000 bail for arraignment on the charges March 29 in Danbury Superior Court.

Audi Hits Deer

Motorist James T. Morley, III, 25, of 54 Huntingtown Road was driving a 2001 Audi All-Road station wagon eastward on Orchard Hill Road about 10 pm March 26, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision, police said.

The impact damaged the auto’s grille and hood. Morley was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sandy Surface

Motorist Christian Derod, 17, of 38 Greenleaf Farms Road was driving a 1993 Mazda 626 on Eden Hill Road about 11:22 pm March 26 and then made a turn onto Hi Barlow Road, police said. The Mazda went out of control on the sandy road surface and struck a tree alongside the street, police said.

Derod received a cut lip, but refused medical attention, police said. Police issued Derod a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Town Snowplow

Motorist Todd Adams, 25, of 26 Buttonball Drive, who was driving a 1987 Ford F-250 pickup truck eastward on a snowy Clearview Drive, was approaching a curve about 6 am March 24, police said.

At that time, town snowplow driver Christopher Capozziello, 40, of 12 Pilgrim Lane was plowing snow in a westbound 2004 Mack dump truck, police said.

While the vehicles were entering the curve in the road from opposite directions, Adams applied his brakes, but the brakes locked, and the pickup truck slid onto the snowy road, striking the town dump truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Adams a written warning for failure to drive to the right.

Church Hill Road

Motorist Walter Pachniuk, 47, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1999 Saab 9-3, was exiting a driveway at 91 Church Hill Road about 11:19 pm March 27, as motorist Teresa Dahlmeyer, 21, of 15 Sunnyview Terrace was driving as 1993 Pontiac Bonneville westward on Church Hill Road, police said.

As the Saab entered the road, the Saab and the Pontiac collided, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Pachniuk an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.

Dodge Into Wall

Motorist Katherine Kokoski, 17, of 76 Jeremiah Road was driving a 1994 Dodge Spirit sedan eastward on Cedar Hill Road about 8:24 pm March 25, when she lost control of the auto, went off the eastbound road shoulder and then struck a stone wall, police said.

Kokoski reported pain and was checked by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the accident. Police issued Kokoski an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Deep Brook Accident

Motorist Jacqueline Ratzing, 17, of 13 Joan Drive, who was driving a 2005 Subaru Impreza southward on Deep Brook Road about 6 pm March 29, lost control of the auto while on a curve on the road, police said.

The Subaru went off the right side of the road and entered a ditch, police said. Ratzing was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Ford Vs Subaru

While traveling eastward near 98 Church Hill Road about 9:12 am March 24, motorist Kathryn Daugherty, 18, of 145 Head O’ Meadow Road took her eyes off the road and drove into an unoccupied 2003 Subaru Forester that was properly parked alongside the eastbound road shoulder, police said.

The damaged Subaru is leased for use by Jack H. Rosenthal, 85, of 101 Haley Lane, Walnut Tree Village, police said. Daugherty was not injured, police said.

Police issued Daugherty a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Botsford Rollover

Motorist Manuel Cruz Panza, 22, of Danbury was driving a 1994 Honda Accord sedan northward on South Main Street about 5:30 am March 26, when the Honda crossed into the opposite lane and struck the mailbox for 361 South Main Street, police said.

The Honda continued traveling northward on the southbound road shoulder, hitting a rock, rolling onto its right side, and then colliding with a six-foot-tall rock ledge outcropping at 350 South Main Street, police said.

Police said that Panza told them that he had fallen asleep at the wheel. Panza was wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred.

Panza was examined at the scene by ambulance volunteers, but refused medical attention, police said. Botsford firefighters went to the accident to clean up an automotive fluids spill.

Police issued Panza an infraction ticket for failure to drive to the right and for driving without a driver’s license.

Tractor-Trailer

At about 6:48 am March 23, tractor-trailer truck driver Thomas Farrakhan, 29, of Philadelphia, Penn, was making a left turn from Route 34 onto Wasserman Way, when the truck collided with a 2003 Honda CRV driven by Mary Gralt, 58, of Bethlehem, which was stopped in the eastbound lane of Wasserman Way, police said.

Ambulance volunteers went to the accident to check Gralt, police said. Farrakhan received an infraction ticket for making a restricted turn.

Swamp Road

Motorist Karen Dancho, 42, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Honda Accord sedan westward on a snowy Swamp Road about 6:26 pm March 23, lost control of the auto on the slick road, police said.

The auto entered the eastbound lane, went into a spin, went off the eastbound road shoulder, struck a tree and then came to rest hanging over an embankment, police said.

Dancho was not injured. Police verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

MV Charge

Police report that they charged motorist Israel Lopez-Morales, 27, of Danbury with operating while under suspension on March 29. After processing the arrest, police released Lopez-Morales on $500 bail for an April 12 court appearance on the charge.

Dodgingtown Collision

At about 7:50 am March 30, motorist John Orzechowski, 18, of 4 Brookwood Drive, who was driving a 1992 Volvo 940 sedan, was making a left turn from the proper lane at the intersection of Route 302 and Cemetery Road when the Volvo was struck from behind by motorist Leonard Putzig, 55, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1991 Nissan Maxima sedan, police report.

Putzig received a knee injury in the accident, police said. Police issued Putzig a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
