The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Diane Dubreuil demonstrating watercolor painting at its next program, on Wednesday, April 9, at 7:30 pm. Her subject will be painting a landscape.

The program will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). It is not necessary to be a member of SCAN to attend the event. Admission is free.

Diane Dubreuil, from New Milford, was raised in Maine and spent a great deal of time in the outdoors. Her interest in art and plein air painting began at an early age and has continued throughout her adult life.

“For me, nothing refreshes my spirit as quickly as a few hours outside,” said Ms Dubreuil. “Quiet observation of nearly any scene, helps me learn about a place and the people that frequent it. Painting en plein air adds to that experience, especially when I travel. I meet the most interesting people who tell me about their towns, their families and their homes. It’s a great opportunity for sharing, and I love that my art is a catalyst for that.”

Ms Dubreuil is currently chair of the New Milford Commission on the Arts. Through that position she developed Gallery 25 and Creative Arts Studio, a co-op fine art gallery at 25 Church Street in New Milford, which exhibits juried local art.

In addition, she is a signature member of the International Plein Air Painters Worldwide, a signature member of New England Watercolor Society, a member of CT Plein Air Painters, a member of NH Plein Air Painters, a member of the Plein Air Painters of Maine, and a member of several Connecticut and Maine art organizations. She and her husband spend much of their time between Connecticut and Maine.

She continues to work commercially, demonstrates watercolor painting, and teaches workshops.

Reservations are not needed for SCAN programs, but additional information is available by calling 860-670-6744.
