Bridge Club Workshops, Weekend Seminar Scheduled To Begin In April

Newtown Bridge Club is hosting evening workshops and a one-day weekend seminar for beginning bridge players as well as players returning to bridge after some years in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown.director@newtownbridge.org or call 203-733-8525. Easybridge! workshops on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 pm, beginning April 6, will present modern bidding basics for players who want to strengthen their skills. There are ten sessions but each workshop stands on its own so interested players can join the group at any time.

Players are welcome to attend on their own or with their bridge partners. Each workshop consists of a brief lesson followed by play and discussion of four to six hands related to the session's topic.

Georgeann Kishner, who will present the workshops, said the workshops offered at the club "emphasizes fun and learning from playing." The cost for each workshop is $12 ($9 for Newtown Bridge Club members).

Initial workshops address Opening the Bidding (April 6), Major Suit Fits (April 13) and One Notrump Bids and Basic Responses (April 20). Seven more workshops are scheduled through June.

Learn Bridge in a Day, on Saturday, April 9, from 10 am to 3 pm, is designed for both newcomers and those returning to bridge. This seminar will focus on the fundamentals of bidding and game play.

Players are welcome to attend alone or with a friend. Participants in the five-hour seminar will leave ready to take on a beginner bridge class, a game with friends or a novice game at a bridge club.

Cost is $25 which includes the textbook and lunch.

Newtown Bridge Club, the second largest bridge club in Connecticut, is affiliated with the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The club holds four ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge games each week: 12:30 pm Mondays, 10 am and 7 pm Tuesdays, and 10 am Wednesdays. Games are played at Edmond Town Hall.
