Main Street Stop, Two Charges

Police said that at about 9:49 pm on March 17 they stopped motorist Handerson Flausino Desouza, 25, of Bridgeport for driving faster than the posted speed limit near 39 Main Street.

After investigating, police said they charged Desouza with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license.

Desouza posted $500 bail and was released for an April 2 court appearance, police said.

Walnut Tree Hill Road Stop

Police said they stopped motorist Anna Lewis, 31, of 4 Shepaug Road near 174 Walnut Tree Hill Road about 7:33 am on March 25 for traveling 44 miles per hour in a posted 25-mph zone.

After investigating, police charged Lewis with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released Lewis on a written promise to appear in court on April 8.

Residential Burglary

Police are investigating a residential burglary that occurred about 11:20 am on March 26 in Hawleyville, near the commuter parking lot for Exit 11 of Interstate 84.

Police said that two unknown people were seen running away from the residential building after the burglary occurred.

A woman told police that she heard glass breaking, after which an investigation found that the rear door of an apartment had been smashed in.

Within the residence, a bedroom was ransacked, police said. No other room in the dwelling was disturbed, police said. Nothing was reported missing from the premises, police added.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the burglary to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Sandy Hook Burglary

Police are investigating a residential burglary which occurred at a Sandy Hook property sometime between 11:30 pm on March 26 and 7 am on March 27. The burglary happened on Liberty Drive, a dead-end street that extends from Berkshire Road.

Warrant Served

Police report they arrested Joshua Adams, 22, of 24 Orchard Hill Road on March 27 on a warrant, charging him with driving with a suspended license in connection with a September 13, 2013, incident. Adams is scheduled to appear in court on April 22 to enter a plea to the charge.

Warrant Case

Police said that after learning that they held a warrant against him, Ryan Danion, 22, of 45 Mt Pleasant Road went to the police station on the morning of March 28 and was charged with first-degree failure to appear in court.

The charge stems from a July 2011 Jewett City incident in which Danion was charged in November 2011 with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, and second-degree making a false statement, police said.

After processing, police held Danion on $1,000 bail for an appearance that day in Danbury Superior Court. The pending criminal case is being adjudicated in Norwich Superior Court.

Church Hill Collision

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Church Hill Road at the entrance to the Blue Colony Diner about 5 pm on March 28.

Motorist Rachell Rodriguez, 69, of Brighton, Mass., who was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius, stopped on westbound Church Hill Road and was waiting to turn left in the diner’s parking lot, as motorist Dean Schultz, 49, of Southbury was driving a 1986 Chevrolet C-30 pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road, police report.

As the Toyota was attempting to make the turn, the two vehicles collided, according to police.

There were no injuries. Rodriguez received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Arrest Warrant Served

Police report that when Eddie Cobb, Jr, 41, of Hartford was being released as a prisoner from the Hartford Correctional Center about 10:36 pm on March 28, they went there to serve an arrest warrant against Cobb.

Police said they arrested Cobb on charges of third-degree forgery and attempted fourth-degree larceny. After receiving a complaint about suspicious activity last September 19 from a local bank, police investigated and later obtained the warrant against Cobb.

After processing Cobb’s arrest, police released him on a written promise to appear in court on April 10.

Rear-End Collision

At about 4:14 pm on March 29, motorist George Easley, 68, of Stratford, who was driving a 1994 GMC van northward near 71 South Main Street, stopped in preparing to make a left turn, after which the GMC was struck from behind by northbound motorist Frederick Ferris, 46, of 24 Robin Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ferris a written warning for following too closely.

Car Key Found

Police report that on March 30, a person turned over to them for safekeeping a Mercury-brand car key that had been found alongside Poverty Hollow Road, near the Redding town line.

Five Charges

Police report that they stopped motorist Justin Silva, 23, of New Milford at about 1:10 am on March 31 near 49 Hawleyville Road to investigate.

Police said they charged Silva with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, making an improper signal, and failure to carry a driver’s license.

Silva was released on $500 bail for an April 15 court appearance, police said.

Queen Street-Mile Hill Collision

During a snowstorm at about 8:30 am on March 31, motorist Carol Cook, 17, of 48 Aunt Park Lane was driving a 1999 BMW 323-I sedan southward on Queen Street, while motorist Milton Baxter, Jr, 35, of Derby was driving a 2013 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Mile Hill Road, according to police.

The BMW approached the intersection of the two streets, but failed to stop a stop sign and then entered the intersection, colliding with the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cook an infraction for a stop sign violation.

Too Fast For Slippery Conditions

Motorist Fausto Gaumantari, 45, of Bethel, who was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck eastward near 53 Old Hawleyville Road during a snowstorm at about 8:50 am on March 31, lost control of the vehicle on the slippery roadway, went off the right road shoulder and struck a Speed Limit road sign, according to police.

Gaumantari was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

 Warrant Served

At about 10:30 pm on March 31, police went to 4 Shamrock Lane and located Sean Patrick Dauber, 42, of that address and served a warrant against him, charging him with second-degree failure to appear in court. The charge listed on the warrant stems from a past incident.

Police said they held Dauber on $1,000 bail for an April 1 arraignment on the charge in Danbury Superior Court.

Evading Responsibility

Police are investigating an incident in which some unknown motorist at about 12:15 pm on April 1 struck a commercial truck which was parked in parking lot at 111 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook center and then left the scene without reporting the collision.

The vehicle damaged in the incident was a work van owned by Charter Communications, the local cable television company.

Police ask any witnesses to the collision to contact investigating Officer Paula Wickman.

Breach of Peace

Police said that at about 6:18 pm on April 1, they responded to the parking lot near Pub 25 American Grille at Plaza South at 266 South Main Street regarding a physical altercation which was in progress.

After investigating, police charged Ryan Kuska, 52, of Monroe with breach of peace. Kuska was released on $500 bail for an April 2 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Larceny Charges

Newtown police said they went to the Farmington police station about 2 am on April 2 and charged Robert Desroches, 52, of Waterbury on warrants, lodging two counts of sixth-degree larceny in connection with 2012 incidents in Newtown.

Police said Desroches was held on bail for an April 2 court arraignment.

 Burglary Warrant

Newtown police report that at about 4:30 pm on April 2, Bristol police contacted them to explain that they had picked up David J. Hipler, 39, of Bristol during traffic enforcement for whom Newtown police held an arrest warrant.

Newtown police went to Bristol and then charged Hipler with third-degree burglary in connection with an unspecified burglary that had occurred on August 13, 2011, in Newtown. The charge is a felony.

Hipler was being held on $15,000 bail for an arraignment on April 3 in Danbury Superior Court.
