Newcomers Program On ‘Managing Parent Stress’

Newtown Newcomers is sponsoring a special program on “Managing Parent Stress” on Friday, April 11, beginning at 10 am. The event will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole).

Admission is free. For information or to make reservations, which are requested by April 9, contact Nancy Obremski at 364-0597.

The program will be presented by Judy Gibneyd, RN. The supervisor of the maternal child health department of Danbury Visiting Nurse Association, Ms Gibneyd has had extensive training in working with families with young children.

Topics to be covered will include “How To Put Yourself First Without Guilt,” “Developing Good Communication Skills with Your Partner,” and “How To Ask For Help.” Her program is expected to last about 45 minutes, with time for questions and answers.

Members of Newtown Newcomers will also be on hand Friday morning to answer questions about the club, which offers friendship and support to new families in town as well as current residents through activities including recipe exchanges, dining out groups, couples’ socials, community service, children and adult play groups, crafts, book clubs, and tot tours.

New and perspective members are encouraged to attend the club’s monthly coffee socials, usually held on the first Tuesday of each month. The club’s motto is, “You don’t have to be new in Newtown.” Current presidents are Judy Loose and Mandy Tolson.
