Newtown High School’s girls’ golf team beat Immaculate of Danbury twice in a row, defeating the host Mustangs 196-210 at Richter Park on April 28, then posting the lowest team score in recent memory with a 179-205 win over the Mustangs at Newtown Country Club on May 3.

Caitlin Briggs earned medalist honors with a score of 41 in the second match with Immaculate. Kendall Reed was next with a 42, Nidhi Mukka had a 47, and Norah Kolb finished with a 49 as the Nighthawks improved to 5-0 this spring.

Newtown’s boys, coming off a nail-biter of a defeat at New Milford on April 28, turned the calendar and posted wins in consecutive days to begin match play in May.

The Nighthawks, with a score of 184, were edged by the New Milford Green Wave with a tally of 183, at Candlewood Valley Country Club.

In a May 3 visit to Notre Dame-Fairfield, at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course, the Nighthawks posted a 184-316 win over a shorthanded Lancer squad. James Celentano was medalist with a 40, Colin Luby also played well with a 43.

The Hawks lost 176 to 182 to Brookfield at Rock Ridge Country Club the next afternoon. Luby tallied a 43, Celentano 45, Charlie Hanson 47, Brendan Adams 47, Alex Walton 48, and Jake Mailloux a 52.
