Students Unite To Create 'Camp Unified,' An Original Play

Newtown High School's Unified Theater program is set to present an original show called Camp Unified on May 19 and May 20, on the stage of Newtown High School's auditorium, 12 Berkshire Road.Camp Unified. Ms Caffrey promised the show is filled with great adventures and great friendships.Camp Unified, the students were working together on the stage of the NHS auditorium. Students sat in a row to warm up for a rehearsal. They stretched, sang, and spoke between themselves.

In Unified Theater, students of all abilities and backgrounds come together as equals to put on a production entirely organized, written, and directed by the students themselves.

As one of the two advisors for the program, Janice Gabriel, told the Board of Education at its May 1 meeting, this year's spring show will be presented at 6 pm on May 19 and at 2 pm on May 20.

For those who have never attended a Unified Theater show, Ms Gabriel explained it as "the highlight of my year."

The following day, her fellow advisor, Alysia Caffrey, said that she is "very excited" for the production.

The NHS Unified Theater program is self-sufficient, according to Ms Gabriel. There is no charge for tickets to the production, but a donation of any amount is suggested. All donations support the program by covering costs for student leader training, buses, and T-shirts, which act as costumes for each theater production held by the group.

As Ms Gabriel told the school board, the camp-themed production will keep audience members smiling for "days to come."
