The Town Players of Newtown had to cancel two of last weekend’s performances of An Inspector Calls after a member of the show tested positive for COVID-19.

The production opened Friday, May 6. Performances were planned for weekends to May 21.

Instead, following Friday night’s production opening curtain, the production temporarily closed.

Town Players issued the following statement to The Newtown Bee on May 11:

“Everyone since then has been in quarantine. As of now The Town Players of Newtown plans to reopen the performance once the show members are healthy and have tested negative for COVID-19.

“An official word if the show will be canceled this coming weekend will be released Thursday on our website and social media sites,” the statement noted. Town Players can be found online at NewtownPlayers.org, on Facebook at TownPlayersOfNewtown, and on Twitter at @NewtownPlayers.

Anyone with tickets to the May 7 or 8 performances is invited to contact the box office to arrange for a refund or exchange for a different performance. Send e-mail to info@newtownplayers.org.

Performances are planned for Friday and Saturday evenings at 8, and Sunday afternoons at 2. There is also one Thursday evening performance scheduled, on May 19. Tickets are $25 for Friday and Saturday evenings, and $20 for the remaining Sunday matinee and the Thursday evening show.

This is not the first time COVID-19 has plagued the local theater this season. Two of three weekends of the March production of Good People were canceled after a cast member, “despite being fully vaccinated, boosted and having proof of vaccination for COVID-19, tested positive,” Town Players President Brian DeToma told The Newtown Bee that month.
