Hearts of Hope of Newtown (HOH-Newtown) has a curbside pickup event planned at Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson Street, on Wednesday, May 19, from 6 to 7 pm.

Weather permitting, the group will have a table out front of the community center. In the event of rain, kits can be picked up inside the lobby.

This month, all hearts purchased and painted will be provided to foster children attending Royal Family Kids Camp sponsored by Black Rock Church in conjunction with the Department of Children and Families.

The camp will host 25 to 35 boys and girls ages 6 to 12 during the summer. The plan is for their staff of volunteers to give every camper a heart with a simple message of hope as a lasting memento of their week at Royal Family Kids Camp. The hearts picked up in May should be returned during the June event (details TBA).

Paint kits with one, five, or more hearts are available. Hearts can be pre-ordered at through the chapter’s Facebook page (facebook.com/heartsofhopeofnewtownct) or purchased during the May 19 curbside event.

“Onesies” can be ordered for $7 each and include one ceramic heart, a message card, paintbrushes, paint, glaze, and simple directions and information about Hearts of Hope. Larger orders are also welcome to supply an entire family, group of friends, birthday party, Scouts, youth group meeting, or any special event.

In addition to paint kits, HOH-Newtown volunteers will also have heart necklaces, bracelets, and the annual Newtown commemorative HoH ornament available for purchase.

Social distancing measures are in place for all HoH events.

For additional information visit the local chapter’s Facebook page or contact HOH Board of Directors member Diane Sarna at d.sarna@ourheartsofhope.org.

The next Hearts of Hope of Newtown curbside pickup event is scheduled for the early evening of Wednesday, May 19.
