Local, state, and federal entities will all be affected by the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 30.

All town offices will be closed on Memorial Day. Town boards and commissions will not be meeting.

Newtown Senior Center, the schools, and C.H. Booth Library also will be closed.

The transfer station on Ethan Allen Road will be closed. (The transfer station is regularly closed to the public on Mondays. It will not be open on Memorial Day for commercial service.)

There is no regular mail delivery.

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices continue to operate by appointment only. Visit portal.ct.gov/DMV to schedule one or to view the list of available online services.

The offices of The Newtown Bee and Antiques and The Arts Weekly will be closed Saturday through Monday, May 28-30, and will reopen at 8 am Tuesday, May 31.

Deadlines for editorial content for The Newtown Bee print edition of Friday, June 3, will not be affected by the holiday. Advertising deadlines will be affected, however; call 203-426-3141 for information.

Flags were lowered late last week in response to a proclamation from President Joseph Biden, marking the solemn milestone of 1,000,000 deaths in the United States from COVID-19. The lowered flags, including the one at the Parks & Recreation garage on Trades Lane, on May 15 also honored Peace Officers Memorial Day. According to US flag code, the American flag on Memorial Day should be flown at half-staff position from sunrise until noon. —Bee Photo, Hicks
