Newtown Public Schools announces “At Our Core” – a district-wide event that will launch on Friday, May 29, and run through that weekend.

“At Our Core offers a unifying experience for the school community to recognize the hard work, effort, and accomplishments of students, teachers, and caregivers despite a challenging year. The event was the brainchild of PEAC (Parent Educator Advisory Council) and members of the PTAs in an effort to celebrate the spirit and resilience of the entire community.

The Apple — a symbol of wisdom, teaching, and health — was purposely chosen with our “core” values in mind: collaboration, creativity, caring, and support. We hope all students, families, and community members will be inspired to integrate apple imagery, creations, or thoughtful messages throughout the town. We invite families and residents to decorate mailboxes, windows, yards, doors or driveways. Town departments and local businesses are invited to participate, too. Be inventive in how you use the apple theme in your own designs.

The following YouTube video provides further details for the At Our Core event: https://youtu.be/6DcGlvjm-QQ.

Decorate your homes and neighborhoods with your “apple-inspired” designs on Friday, May 29, and throughout the weekend to honor the work of our community and educators as we near the close of the school year.

Everyone is encouraged to take pics of their own artistic designs or those you spot in your travels around Newtown. Send your images to PEAC@newtown.k12.ct.us. You can also follow us on Twitter: NewtownAtOurCore. Don’t forget, #AtOurCore!

A website has also been created and will display collected images and fun resources for you to use and enjoy. You might even purchase a commemorative T-Shirt at https://sites.google.com/newtown.k12.ct.us/atourcore.

Paintings, poetry, chalk art and apple ornaments will demonstrate that we are all one — and at our core — we continue to create, support, and nurture. Have fun, Newtown!”
