Housatonic Valley Waldorf School celebrated its 29th Annual May Fair over two days this year, hosting one celebration for the school's Early Childhood program on May 5 and one for first to eighth grade students on May 9.

This year's celebrations had parents back on campus for the events for the first time. Last year’s celebration was students-only and 2020’s celebration was virtual, according to an announcement from the school.

Housatonic Valley Waldorf School traditional dance teacher Patricia Campbell, and Fran Hendrickson, accordion accompanist, led the grade school celebration. First to eighth grade students participated in various dances including dancing around a maypole — adorned with new ribbons — and a variety of Morris Dances. Music teacher Danielle O’Neil and fifth to eighth grade students also accompanied with recorder music and singing. Seventh grade students ran a "Sweet & Savory Bake Sale" feast as part of fundraising for its eighth grade trip, set for 2023.

The May 9 event ended with a special Ukrainian folk dance, which the gathered community members were invited to join.

Tours Offered

The Housatonic Valley Waldorf School also announced it has Saturday and weekday tours available for prospective parents.

An announcement for the tours reads, “While traditional education might involve teaching toward certain standardized tests, Waldorf education relies on a time-tested curriculum and building strong relationships. Graduates have consistently been described as perceptive, thoughtful, extraordinary, skilled, and kind young people. They are proof that academic standards will be met if a student’s whole needs are met.”
