Track Team Captures Torrington Invite Title, Meet Records Set

Newtown High School’s girls’ track and field team won the Torrington Varsity Alumni Club Track and Field Invite in mid May. The Nighthawks piled up standout performances, including meet record times and these first- and second-place outcomes:

4x800 relay: 1. Ally McCarthy, Sophia Guevara, Hannah Snayd, Riley Powers 10:11.62.

4x100 relay: 2. Ella Hall, Elise Barricelli, Amelia Daly, Skyler Howard 51.33, which along with Naugatuck's first-place time of 50.39, beat the meet record which was 51.57.

4x400 relay: 1. Barricelli, Daly, Howard, Snayd 4:16.07.

1600: 1. Riley Powers 5:13.86 (meet record); 2. Grace Chiriatti 5:46. 60. Chiaratti narrowly beat out teammate Clara D'Amico (5:46.62).

3200: 2. Emily Litke 12:32.

High jump: 2. Jaime Adams 5-00.

Newtown High’s boys’ squad had some standout efforts, including a relay time that broke the meet record.

100: 2. Caleb Smith 11.18.

4x400 relay: 2. Aidan Budge, Hayden Bobowick, Soheib Dissa, and Cameron Whorf 3:33.81, which along with Naugatuck's first-place time of 3:30.06, broke the meet record, which was 3:36.74.

Newtown's boys also hosted a meet at Blue & Gold Stadium on May 17. NHS defeated Brookfield 101-44, Joel Barlow of Redding 94-56, and New Fairfield 102-48.

The teams will compete in the SWC championships, at New Milford High, on Tuesday, May 24, starting at 3 pm.
