This letter, originally sent to parents and staff of Newtown Public Schools, was received at The Newtown Bee for publication.

Dear Parents and Staff,

The Newtown school community was deeply saddened to learn of the tragic events that unfolded over the weekend involving former Newtown students. As news has become available, a current homicide investigation is underway for Peter Manfredonia, a 2015 graduate and UConn student, by local and State authorities.

Sadly, one of the victims was also a former Newtown High School graduate, Nicholas Eisele. This is heartbreaking for the entire community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the Eisele family at this time, as well as other families in Connecticut who lost a loved one during this weekend’s incident.

Counselors and other members of our Pupil Services department are prepared to support any students or staff as needed.

We are asking that the media recognize the unfortunate impact this has had on the entire Newtown community and respect the privacy of our families and staff at this difficult time.
