The Catherine Violet Hubbard Foundation (CVHF) hosted its free Sunday at the Sanctuary workshop about backyard farm animals on May 23. The event had been postponed from May 16 after being rained out.

At the sanctuary on Old Farm Road, families had the opportunity to meet ambassador farm animals from local organizations and learn what goes into taking care of them.

On site was Michelle Nardozzi, owner of Newbury Farms, and with her a 1½-year-old Arapawa goat named Goose.

Nardozzi explained that she has had Goose and his brother since 2019 at her farm/homestead in Newtown. There, she helps with the conservation of Arapawa goats, which are a rare heritage breed.

Members of the Doesy Doats Goat Club, a 4-H Club in Litchfield County, were also at the event with multiple goats including Burnt Cookie, Mai, Tiny Bella, and mama goat Tiramisu, who could be seen nursing her babies.

Rising Starr Horse Rescue founder Kelly Stackpole and her team were accompanied by their “spokespony” Pixie, a Welsh pony. While Pixie is an ambassador animal for the Wilton-based nonprofit, the group also saves neglected and abused horses and finds them new homes.
