Contemporary Fine Arts Gallery Has Spring Opening Planned

SOUTHBURY — Award-winning sculptor James Travers of Newtown announces the reception for the spring show opening of Travers’ Red Mill Gallery. The gallery, on Route 172 in the South Britain section of Southbury, will open on Saturday, June 10, with a reception from 2 to 5 pm.

Along with welded steel sculptures by Mr Travers, the gallery’s inaugural exhibition will feature paintings by Pat Barkman from Newtown, Lorraine Agri of Woodbury, Judith Corrigan of Trumbull, Gus Moran and Samantha Heilweil of Fairfield, and Vivien Bergenthal of Scarsdale, N.Y. The show will run through September.

“Art does not achieve its destiny until it gets out into the world,” says Mr Travers, explaining the reasonable price tags on the art.

The 2,400-square foot, second floor space of a 130-plus year-old manufacturing building caught Mr Travers’s eye two years ago. He has since transformed it into one of the most thrilling places in Fairfield County in which to view art.

The gallery is open most weekends, and by appointment. Call Mr Travers, 364-1326, or the gallery at 262-8005 for more information.
