Award-Winning Quilt Auctioned To Help Local Boy

Linda Silberstein, bidding for The Homesteads at Newtown, was the winning bidder of the silent auction of an award-winning duck quilt at the annual Great Pootatuck Duck Race. The quilt was donated by Peg Forbell to raise funds for Jordan Cicchesi, a 5-year-old who soon will be undergoing a medical procedure in Phoenix.

These funds will be used to pay for transportation, lodging, and other expenses.

“It’s a great project and I hope to be able to do more to help out,” said Ms Silberstein. The Duck Race was sponsored by the Newtown Lions’ Club and was held last Saturday. In addition to the silent auction, the Lions raffled off a garden tractor, a night in New York including theater tickets, dinner, and hotel, and numerous other prizes. The money raised in the raffle will be used for the seat renovation project at the Edmond Town Hall Theatre.

Ms Silberstein and her husband Morton are owners of The Homesteads at Newtown, a senior living community. Since opening The Homesteads, they have been active in raising funds for community activities. This Saturday, June 5, they will be hosting an open house and brunch to benefit Kevin’s Community Center. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens. Reservations can be made by calling 426-8118.
