Occupation: Soon-to-be retired Editor of The Newtown Bee, a position I have held for five years. Prior to that, most recently I was a features reporter for the paper for 11 years.

Family: I have been married to Phil Crevier for 43 years, as of July 1. We have two adult children. Katie Rose is married to Andrew Grigg; their 21-month-old daughter, Avery, is our only grandchild. Nathan lives in Manhattan with his girlfriend, Hailey Koop. My family has truly made me a better person.

Pets: We just recently lost our 11-year-old Lab mix dog, Lilith, and our hearts are broken. We have two cats, Mimi, who is 13 years old and Respighi, who is 12 years old.

How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived in Newtown since 1995.

What do you like to do in your free time? I am an amateur painter, mainly oils and acrylics, mainly Holcombe Hill and clouds as my subjects. I garden, both flowers and vegetables, but I would not want my family to have to survive on my gardening success… I belong to a wonderful book club, practice yoga, hike, write poetry, and both Phil and I love to cook. Any chance we get to play with Avery is embraced.

What are your favorite books? I love A Prayer For Owen Meany, by John Irving. This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel, Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell, and The Mercies by Kiran Millwood Hargrave are more recent books that resonate with me. Anything by Alice Hoffman captures my attention.

What is your favorite travel destination? We love Acadia National Park and the Bar Harbor, Maine area, and northern Minnesota, where I grew up.

What is the best part about Newtown? The amazing people who populate this town.

What organizations are you part of in Newtown? I belong to the Newtown Choral Society and Newtown Congregational Church and I am looking forward to checking out volunteer opportunities now.

Who or what has been the greatest influence in your life? My family of course, and my high school English teacher, Lonni Whitchurch, who first encouraged my writing. To this day we remain in touch, critiquing each other’s poetry.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? I would like to spend a day with the New York Times executive editor, Dean Baquet, or the publisher, A.G. Sulzberger, to see the wheels in action. How fun would that be?

Who is your favorite musical artist? When I paint, I like to listen to the Rolling Stones and other classic rock artists.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

What is something you cannot live without? My friends and family.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Being the first woman Editor of The Newtown Bee rates right up there. I’m also super proud of having co-owned and operated The Garden of Eating restaurant in Hartford in the 1980s, kind of ahead of the times.
