Homes For Heroes

To the Editor:

Building Homes for Heroes would like to thank you for being part of a successful national fundraiser: Building Homes for Heroes recipient Army Specialist Brendan Marrocco of Staten Island moved into his new smart home on June 18. Many of you may remember the fundraiser held at Hot Shots Grille for Brendan last August, or you may remember the posters that so many local businesses were generous enough to hang in their stores:

Brendan lost all four limbs in Iraq on Easter Sunday 2009, but is now in a home built specially to accommodate him thanks to so many generous people all over the United States, including our own Hot Shots, owned by Roland Bomova, who hosted the event completely free of charge to BHFH.

There were so many donations from people in our town and surrounding areas including generous donations from the Newtown VFW Post 308, the Newtown Ladies Auxiliary VFW, the Bethel VFW Post 935, and Liberty Closet & Garage in Danbury, who will be outfitting the home with closets for Brendan and doing the garage as well. Because of people like you and these, Building Homes for Heroes was able to successfully build an accessible home for Brendan that allows him to live a normal life.

Please see the BHFH website, www.BuildingHomesforHeroes.org, to watch the Fox News interviews and discussions celebrating this event. Remember that BHFH continues to raise money to build homes for severely injured veterans returning home from these current wars, and keep an eye out for future fundraisers in our area; there are four homes on our radar to be built this year.

Thank you again for all your generosity, and, let me say that after reading all the “Thank You” letters written to The Bee Letter Hive lately for all the successful charity events, Newtown really is nicer.

Sincerely,

Tony Sigillito & Liz Sortino

13 Turkey Roost Road, Sandy Hook                              June 24, 2011
