Electors and citizens qualified to vote at town meetings of the Town of Newtown are being called to participate in a Special Town Meeting on Monday, July 6, at 7:15 pm, at the Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street.

Qualified voters will be asked to endorse or reject communication from the Board of Selectmen with respect to a resolution for a special appropriation in the amount of $3.6 million for the planning, design, and construction of improvements to the Newtown High School auditorium as authorized in the Capital Improvement Plan, and authorizing the issuance of $3.6 million in bonds to cover that appropriation.

Voters will then be asked to weigh in on a special appropriation in the amount of $1 million for planning, design, construction, reconstruction, and improvements of various town roads as authorized in the Capital Improvement Plan, and authorizing the issuance of $1 million in bonds to meet that special appropriation.

Pending the issuance of those bonds, voters will also approve any temporary borrowings to cover these expenditures.

Copies of these proposed resolutions are on file and open to public inspection at the office of the town clerk. The Special Town Meeting will precede the regular July Board of Selectmen’s meeting, which will commence at 7:30 pm.
