Benvenuto

Martha (Leo) Benvenuto, 89, of Sandy Hook, died June 30. She was born March 19, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Rosa Tota and Vito Leo.

Survivors include her children, Rose Marie Sondergeld of Norman, Okla., and Thomas Benvenuto of Norwalk, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Vito Benvenuto, preceded her in death.

Mrs Benvenuto moved to Sandy Hook from her native Brooklyn, in 1973. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and cooking for any and all who would visit. She was known as the neighborhood grandma, often watching the kids in the area. She worked for a number of years at Newtown Insurance, before retiring.

Funeral services were private. Burial will be in Oklahoma.
