Warm Blessings Benefited Christmas In July

To the Editor,

Volunteers for the Newtown Salvation Army Committee enjoyed a warm and pleasant day this past Saturday, July 24, ringing their bells and soliciting donations traditionally done only during the Christmas season.

Their “Red Buckets” brought in nearly $1,000 that Newtown’s Human Services Department will use for their fall “back-to-school” purchase of school supplies put into backpacks, as well as other programs for friends and neighbors in Newtown that need assistance.

As always, local businesses welcomed the ringers, and the committee thanks Bagel Delight, Dunkin, Yankee Wine and Liquor, Bottle Stop, and the General Store for their support. We also want to thank all of the volunteers who helped coordinate the bell ringers, set up each kettle stand, and rang the bell for the Salvation Army on Saturday.

President, Salvation Army Newtown-Bethel Unit
