Medicinal Plant Hike

DERBY —  A medicinal plant hike led by one of Kellogg Environmental Center’s seasonal employees will take place Saturday, August 2. The hike will start at 10:30 and last until noon.

The hike will be lead through the Kellogg Estate and Osbornedale State Park. Plants that have been historically used by Native Americans, earlier generations, present-day herbalists, and even used internationally will all be highlighted. Plants that may be regarded as weeds may have a new meaning for participants following the hike.

Traditional medicine is the use of natural materials found within one’s environment to help alleviate ailments. At the culmination of the walk through the park, a small reception consisting of refreshing herbal teas will be held in the Kellogg Environmental Center’s lobby.

The program is free, but preregistration is requested. For more information and to register, call Kellogg Environmental Center at 734-2513.

The Kellogg Center, a facility of the Department of Environmental Protection, is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue, off Route 34.
