Police Reports July 18 - 28, 2013

DUI Incident

Police report that while on patrol along Wasserman Way at the Exit 11 interchange of Interstate 84 at about 8 pm on July 28, they stopped motorist Patricia Esposito, 53, of North Haven for a violation and then investigated.

Police said they charged Esposito with driving under the influence and with failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Following processing, Esposito was released on $100 bail for an August 13 court appearance, according to police.

Charter Ridge Damage

Police learned at about 11:30 am on July 21 of some mischief that had occurred at a residence on Charter Ridge Drive, near that street’s intersection with Cider Mill Road.

On July 21, sometime between 1 and 10:30 am, someone threw a town-owned traffic cone into a swimming pool at the property and also placed two traffic cones and a road maintenance sign in front of that residence, according to police.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Maltbie Road

Police report that motorist Eric Fiore, 18, of 19 Taunton Lake Drive was driving a 2003 Honda Civic sedan carrying one passenger on Maltbie Road, west of its intersection with Castle Meadow Road, when an accident occurred about 9:30 pm on July 19.

Police report Fiore told them that a deer ran out onto the roadway ahead of him, after which he swerved to the right, but lost control of the auto and then went off the right side of the road, striking some rocks in the yard at 40 Maltbie Road.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Fiore a written warning for making a restricted turn.

VW Vs BMW

At about 1:48 pm on July 24, motorist Nicole Mogollon, 21, of 44 Winton Farm Road was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Passat CC sedan northward on Pine Tree Hill Road, as motorist George Geanuracos, 49, of 96 Huntingtown Road was driving a 1998 BMW Z-3 convertible eastward on Meadowbrook Road, police report.

The Volkswagen then entered the intersection of those two roads, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Mogollon a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Hawleyville Collision

At about 9 am on July 25, motorist Carol Troy, 65, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2013 Ford Escape SUV northward on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, stopped behind a stopped northbound 2006 Scion X-B SUV driven by Melissa Russell, 45, of Bethlehem, police said.

The Scion then began moving forward but stopped, after which it was struck from behind by the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Troy received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Honda Vs Chevy

Police report they went to the Curtis Packaging Corp parking lot at 44 Berkshire Road about 4:45 pm on July 25 to investigate an auto accident.

In the incident, a 2010 Honda CRV SUV, which was driven by Dorothy Bartlett, 70, of 22 Algonquin Trail, struck a parked vacant 2011 Chevrolet Camaro coupe while maneuvering in the parking lot, police report.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Ford Damaged

Sometime between 12:30 and 3:30 pm on July 17, a 2003 Ford Taurus sedan, which was parked in a rear commercial parking lot at 99 South Main Street, was damaged by a collision in which the offending motorist drove away without reporting the crash, police said.

Based on evidence, the offending vehicle probably has a white paint color, police said.

Hyundai Vs Volvo

At about 4:50 pm on July 19, motorist Claire Bernson, 18, of 39 Paugussett Road was driving a 2003 Volvo S-40 sedan eastward on Church Hill Road and was approaching the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, police said.

At that time, motorist Kathleen Couchon, 56, of Narragansett, R.I., who was driving a 2009 Hyundai Sonata sedan, was attempting to turn right out of a driveway at 62 Church Hill Road to head eastward, police said.

The two vehicles collided. Police said that Volvo passenger Jacob Enriquez, 19, of 7 Hanover Road reported dizziness and was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital to be checked. Couchon received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Unsafe Passing

At about 9:38 pm on July 23, trucker William Epley, 53, of Marion, N.C., who was driving a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck southward on Toddy Hill Road, signaled to make a left turn into a driveway for Curtis Packaging, police said.

Southbound motorist Randall French, 27, of Unionville, who was driving a 2002 Dodge Dakota pickup truck behind the Freightliner, then attempted to pass the Freightliner on the left as it was making the left turn, resulting in a collision, police report.

There were no injuries. Police issued French an infraction for unsafe passing.

Taunton Hill Mishap

Police report that motorist Sabrina Hull, 43, of 24 Dodgingtown Road was driving a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastward on Taunton Hill Road on the night of July 25, when a deer ran out onto the roadway and collided with the vehicle. Hull was not injured.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 10:44 pm on July 27, they received a telephone call from Pub 25, a bar located at Plaza South at 266 South Main Street (Route 25), reporting a problem there.

Police said that on arriving at the plaza’s parking lot, they stopped the vehicle of the person who was the subject of the complaint.

Police said that after investigating, they charged motorist Anthony Mason, 28, of 50 Deep Brook Road with driving under the influence.

After processing, Mason was released on $100 bail for a August 9 court appearance.

I-84 DUI

State police report that at about 10 pm on July 24, they stopped motorist John Zappone, 26, of Prospect, who was driving a BMW 325 auto through a construction zone on westbound Interstate 84 between Exit 10 and Exit 9.

After investigating, state police charged Zappone with driving under the influence in a construction zone and also with failure to drive in the proper lane in a construction zone.

After processing the arrest, state police released Zappone on $1,000 nonsurety bail for an August 8 court appearance.

Highway Collision

State police said that a two-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Interstate 84 about 500 feet east of Exit 9 about 5:15 pm on July 26.

In that incident, motorist Danuta Vegi, 52, of 40 Orchard Hill Road, who was driving a 2007 Volvo S-60, slowed to a stop for heavy traffic, after which the Volvo was struck from behind by a 2003 Pontiac Aztek driven by Robin Klinger, 51, of Smithfield, N.C., state police said.

Vegi reported pain, but refused medical attention, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.

Four Vehicles

State police said that four vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction accident on westbound Interstate 84 west of Exit 9 about 7:50 am on July 24.

The collision involved motorist Victoria Bozzuto, 56, of Prospect, who was driving a 2008 Ford Taurus sedan, motorist Nicole Strand, 27, of 4 Fir Tree Lane, who was driving a 2008 Nissan Rogue SUV, motorist Darrell Ruopp, 30, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck, and motorist Joseph Vinci, 46, of Southbury, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV, state police said.

Following the accident, Strand reported pain, but refused medical attention, state police said. Both Vinci and Ruopp received written warnings for following too closely, state police said.

Interstate Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84 about one-half mile west of Exit 9 about 9:30 pm on July 23.

In that incident, motorist Frederick Gohr, 22, of Hatfield, Mass., who was driving a 2000 Ford Escort, struck the rear end of a 2012 Honda CRV driven by Sandra Dinicola, 47, of Waterbury, state police report.

There were no injuries. State police said Gohr received an infraction for following too closely.

CDs Found

On July 23, police found a silver and black compact disc case that contained about 60 CDs.

The item was found on a traffic island located between adjacent shopping centers at 6 Queen Street and 14 Church Hill Road. The owner may contact Officer Bart Lorancaitis at the police station to claim the item.

License

Police report they stopped motorist Joseph Kenhercz, 30, of Bridgeport near 30 Church Hill Road at about 7 am on July 27 for making a right turn on a red traffic signal at an intersection where that action is prohibited.

After investigating, police charged Kenhercz with driving with a suspended license. He was released on a written promise to appear in court on August 13.

Larceny Charge

Police report that they responded to a complaint concerning alleged shoplifting at the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street about 5:24 pm on July 30.

After investigating, police charged Stacey Gee, 39, of 3 Pastors Walk with sixth-degree larceny. Gee was released on a written promise to appear in court on August 13.

Sideswipe

Police said that motorist Tracey Gregorio, 24, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty SUV on The Boulevard at about 11:13 pm on July 26, when the vehicle sideswiped a bridge wall.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gregorio a written warning.

VW Into Cables

Motorist Scott Peterson, 43, of 11 Brennan Road was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta sedan northward on South Main Street near its intersection with Homestead Lane at about 2:46 am on July 29, when the auto veered off the right road shoulder and struck some guard cables, according to police.

Peterson was not injured. Police said they issued him an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Bennetts Bridge Road about 11:40 am on July 28.

Motorist Katherine Peters, 19, of 26 Charter Ridge Drive, who was driving a 2001 Ford Escape SUV, was waiting at the intersection in order to make a left turn, when the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Jose Conde, 29, of Patterson, N.Y., who was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Conde a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Berkshire Road

At about 9:15 am on July 29, motorist Arthur D. Norton, Jr, 48, of 3 Indian Hill Lane was driving a 2002 Ford Windstar minivan on Berkshire Road, as motorist Herbert Marcucilli, 85, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Volvo XC-70, was exiting a commercial parking lot at 25 Berkshire Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Marcucilli received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Evading

At about 7:20 pm on July 28, near 33 Berkshire Road, a Newtown man who was driving an Acura TSX  eastward, slowed for traffic, after which the Acura was struck from behind by a red Saturn vehicle, police said. The Saturn’s driver then drove away from the accident scene, police said. Police ask anyone who knows who was driving the Saturn to contact them at the police station.

South Main Collision

Police report that at about 7:43 pm on July 22, motorist Jonathan Abdel Karim, 21, of Hurley, N.Y., who was driving a vehicle northward near 47 South Main Street, struck the rear end of a northbound vehicle driven by Abreu Keyla, 20, of Jacksonville, Fla.

There were no injuries. Karim received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.
