Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued

The National Weather Service in Upton, N.Y., has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for central Fairfield County and southwestern New Haven County.[naviga:img class="aligncenter wp-image-332580" src="https://newtownbee.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/Severe-Thunderstorm-Warning-August-1-2018-WunderMap®.jpg" alt="Severe Thunderstorm Warning -- August 1 2018 WunderMap®" width="600" height="576" /]A 3:17 pm Wunderground radar image showed a long line of rain and thunderstorms over and approaching Newtown and surrounding towns. The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, which is in effect until 3:45.

The warning will remain in effect until 3:45 pm.

At 3:05 pm, a severe thunderstorm was located over Weston, or 8 miles northeast of New Canaan, moving east at 20 mph.

Hazards include 60 mph wind gusts. Damage to trees and power lines can be expected, according to the weather service.

This severe thunderstorm will be near Bridgeport and Fairfield around 3:25 pm, Trumbull around 3:35 pm, and Milford and Shelton around 3:45, according to the weather service.
