The Town of Newtown has announced an 8-year-old Doberman named Zannah is its #1 Dog for 2021.

Town Clerk Debbie Aurelia Halstead did the honors earlier this month of selecting a registered dog tag, and Zannah’s was the lucky pick.

Halstead met with Zannah’s owner, Jenny Cannerelli, who is a four-year resident of Newtown, to present her with the prizes on July 21 at Your Healthy Pet, 61 Church Hill Road. Cannerelli received a $50 gift card to Your Healthy Pet, as well as a trophy and #1 dog tag.

While at Your Healthy Pet, Cannerelli showed Halstead and manager Chris Barry some of Zannah’s impeccable training.

Zannah — whose AKC registered name is Sapphire’s Allusion, having come from a poetry-themed litter — holds titles in agility, rally obedience, and scent work. She is also a Canine Good Citizen and a Novice Trick Dog, and has a Doberman temperament certificate after passing the Working Aptitude Evaluation administered by the Doberman Pinscher Club of America.

Cannerelli says Zannah’s true love is scent work and she holds specific titles for Scent Work Container Advanced, Scent Work Interior Advanced, and Scent Work Buried Novice.

Now Zannah can add Dog of the Year to her many accomplishments and enjoy goodies from Your Healthy Pet as a special treat.
