Handmade Paper & Pulp Paintings
Handmade Paper & Pulp Paintings
SOUTHBURY â âFibers and Fantasy,â a solo art show by Anita Liebeskind, is on view until August 30 at Southbury Public Library, 100 Poverty Road.
The exhibit features handmade paper and pulp paintings including âBrush Papers,â inspired by Ms Liebeskindâs African safari experience, and papers embellished with silk embroideries inspired by a recent trip to China.
Ms Liebeskind is a visual artist whose experiences include diverse areas of Colonial-era crafts. She acknowledges her 18 years as a docent at The Mattatuck Museum as the catalyst for her interest in all crafts and subjects relating to the Colonial era.
The spontaneity of paper making and its potential for creativity, combined with Ms Liebeskindâs desire to help save the environment by recycling natural fibers, has confirmed her love and dedication to this art form.
She taught paper making in schools throughout Connecticut while affiliated with TAPCO (Traveling Artists and Performers COmpany). She has conducted paper making workshops and exhibited at numerous libraries, museums and galleries throughout the state as well. Ms Liebeskind continues to exhibit and also teaches children and adults in her studio.
The exhibit can be viewed during regular library hours: Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9:30 am to 5:30 pm; Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 am to 9 pm. The library, which is closed on weekends in August, can be reached by calling 262-0626.
