Monday At Richter: Newtown Lions, Sigma Chi Third Annual Fore Sandy Hook Golf Classic
DANBURY — Newtown Lions Club and Western Connecticut State University’s Sigma Chi Alumni Association announce the Third Annual Fore Sandy Hook Golf Classic will take place on Monday, August 10, at Richter Park, 100 Aunt Hack Road in Danbury.
Registration and lunch will begin at noon, and tee time will be 1:30. Dinner and an auction will follow the golf.
Cost is $175 per golfer, or $700 for a foursome, which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch and dinner, snacks, and a gift. Those who wish to join the golfers for dinner and auction only are welcome, for $60 per person.
Richter Park is a premier 18-hole municipal course that is rated a Top 5 Course in Connecticut, and a Top 25 Public Course in the United States by Golf Digest.
The tournament will benefit Sandy Hook Elementary Fund (SHEF), which continues to provide financial aid for counseling for children, families, staff and first responders of the December 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. The need continues to be great for this program, which reached a high of over 650 people this year and over 4,000 counseling sessions, at a combined cost of over $250,000. Post Traumatic Shock Disorder continues to be the leading issue with the many people affected by that day.
Various gifts and prizes will be awarded at the Classic. All participants will receive an embroidered golf tote. Prizes will be awarded for Longest Drive, Closest to The Pin, and first, second and third place finishers.
All Classic participants will also be invited to participate in an auction whose items will include a UConn Women’s Basketball poster autographed by all 2015 team players, a pin flag autographed by Tiger Woods, helmets autographed by Giants players Odell Beckham and Victor Cruz, and a football autographed by Joe Namath. Golfers looking for future outings can also bid on foursomes at Richter Park, and Ridgewood Country Club.
The Newtown Lions Club Foundation has invested over $420,000 in counseling since 12/14, and the need is ongoing. Sponsorships for the 2015 Fore Sandy Hook Golf Classic are still available.
