Tornado Watch Added To Storm Cancellations, Other Changes

UPDATE: This report was updated at 9:45 am on August 4 with advisories from the Governor.

Ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias, a new tornado watch has been posted and local cancellations are mounting. Governor Ned Lamont is also reminding restaurant operators and homeowners to take in or secure things like outdoor furniture, tents, and awnings.

Newtown Parks & Recreation has announced several early closings and program cancellations for Tuesday, August 4:

*Day Camp will be closing at noon;

*Tennis Camp is canceled and make up will be on Friday;

*Torpedoes Swim team is canceled;

*Treadwell Pool and Eichler's Cove Beach are closed for the day;

*Skyhawks Hoopstertots is canceled for this evening; and

*All fields are closed including artificial turf.

All indoor programs are running on schedule.

The organizers of Newtown Farmers Market at Fairfield Hills already announced yesterday that today’s market is canceled.

Governor Lamont has ordered the Connecticut Emergency Operations Center (EOC) to remain activated to monitor and manage any issues that may arise as a result of severe weather caused by Tropical Storm Isaias.

“With the current forecasted track of Isaias, we can expect heavy rain and high winds beginning Tuesday afternoon,” Lamont said. “We’re encouraging any restaurant owners and homeowners to secure outdoor furniture, tents, and awnings. We’ll continue to monitor the storm’s progress up the east coast and will provide updates as necessary.”

A Tornado Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Connecticut, including Fairfield County, along with New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania until 4 pm EDT. This tornado watch covers our entire area and is associated with Tropical Storm Isaias.
