Osborne Memorial Golf Classic

The Jim Osborne Memorial Golf Classic, sponsored by the Newtown Rotary Club, will be held Monday, September 12, at Tashua Knolls Golf Club in Trumbull. Proceeds will support the Family Counseling Center, Kevin’s Place, Shelter of the Cross and projects by Rotary International. Newtown Junior Women Golf Tournament

The third annual Newtown Junior Women Golf Tournament will be held Monday, August 22, at Whitney Farms Golf Course in Monroe. Tee time is slated for 9 am with registration at 7:30 am. Fee is $150 and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, continental breakfast, buffet lunch, and snacks and beverages on the course. There will be low net and low gross team prizes as well as longest drive, closest to the pin, and five hole-in-one prizes sponsored by Bridgeport Harley Davidson. Fall Babe Ruth Baseball

Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball is accepting registrations for Fall Ball. Players already registered with Babe Ruth can download a registration form from www.eteamz.com/newtownbaseball and send it through the mail to NBRL, P.O. Box 133, Newtown 06470 (provided all birth certificate issues have been addressed). New players can also send registration forms through the mail but must first have a board member verify the player’s birth certificate (only send a COPY with the form; the original must be verified by a board member in person). Fall Babe Ruth Softball

Newtown Babe Ruth Softball is accepting registrations for Fall Ball. Forms and information are available at the Parks and Recreation Department or by calling Shari Burton at 426-5977 (email slburt19@msn.com). Fee is $80.

Force Softball Tryouts

The Newtown Force 16-and-under travel softball team will be holding tryouts for the 2006 spring/summer season on Sundays, August 21 and 28, at 2 pm, at Liberty Field. Tryouts are open to players born on or after January 1, 1990. Call Cindi Broughton at 270-3627.

Boat Captains Needed For Kerchal Tournament

Boat captains are wanted for Bryan’s Fishing Camp Tournament, to be held Friday, August 19, from 9 am to 2:30 pm, at the Girl Scout Camp in New Fairfield. The camp is run under the auspices of the Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut’s Great Hollow Wilderness School and teaches fishing techniques to young people. Bryan’s Fishing Camp is funded by the Bryan Kerchal Memorial. To volunteer, call Ray Kerchal at 426-1837.

Special Olympics Golf Classic

Area golfers are invited to sign up for the Special Olympics’ annual Golf Classic on Monday, September 26, at the Yale Golf Course. Funds raised will support year-round training and athletic competition in Olympic-style sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Fairfield and New Haven counties. Fees for foursomes will be $1,000; however, individuals without a foursome will be paired with other participants at a fee of $250 each. Sponsorships are available at various levels, including Eagle at $5,000, Birdie at $2,500, Par at $1,000 and Tee at $125. Fees will include a continental breakfast, golf cart, greens fees, on-course lunch, beverages, awards reception, gift bag and prizes.  Registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30 am., with shotgun start at 9 am.
