Mile Hill Road

At about 8:13 am on August 13, on westbound Mile Hill Road, at its intersection with South Main Street, motorist Robert Czemiawski, 57, of Danbury, who was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Trax SUV, struck the rear end of a 2016 Toyota Corolla sedan driven by Maritza Knight, 31, of Waterbury, police report.

Knight reported pain, but refused medical treatment. Police verbally warned Czemiawski for following too closely.

Two Crashes, Same Area

Police said that they learned about 1 pm on August 13 that a 2016 Ford F-250 pickup truck had struck a utility pole on Hattertown Road, near Mt Nebo Road, snapping the pole and bringing down wires. The driver then drove southward on Hattertown Road, fleeing the scene, police said.

Police later found the damaged truck in a commercial parking in Monroe and charged motorist Scott Cohen, 39, of Trumbull with evading responsibility and with making a restricted turn. Cohen was released on $1,000 bail for an August 27 court appearance.

Police said that later that day, Cohen rented a 2019 Dodge Challenger sedan.

At about 5:12 pm that day, Cohen was driving the Dodge southward on Hattertown Road, near Merlin’s Lane, as motorist Christopher Carbone, 56, of Newtown, was driving a 2009 Acura RDX SUV northward there, police said.

The Dodge crossed the road’s center lines and collided with the Acura. There were no injuries. Cohen received an infraction for failure to maintain the proper lane.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at 5:44 pm on August 13, they received a report concerning an erratic driver traveling near the intersection of Sugar Street and Main Street, so they responded and searched for the vehicle in question.

Police pulled over motorist David DosSantos, 36, of Southbury, near the intersection of The Boulevard and Schoolhouse Hill Road to investigate. Police charged DosSantos with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. After processing, he was released for an August 27 court appearance.

Toyota VS BMW

About 3:49 pm on August 11, on westbound Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet east of Exit 11, while traveling in traffic, motorist Michael Lake, 41, of Danbury, who was driving a 2017 Toyota Camry sedan, struck the rear end of a BMW X-5 SUV driven by Monique Purandah, 35, of Danbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Lake received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart resulting in an accident.

SUV Vs SUV

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, between Exits 10 and 11, which involved nine people, about 12:45 pm on August 10.

Traffic traveling on the highway slowed suddenly and motorist Yunior Crisostomo, 21, of New York City, who was driving a 2016 Honda Pilot SUV carrying six passengers, struck the rear end of 2017 Toyota Highlander SUV driven by Patrick Clark, 61, of Sparta, N.J., which was carrying one passenger.

The Toyota passenger reported pain, but did not want medical attention at the scene, state police said. Crisostomo received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Intersection Crash

About 12:47 pm on August 10, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Nunnawauk Road and Hitfield Road.

The collision involved motorist Robert Spash, 45, of Danbury, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Dakota pickup truck, and motorist Christopher Vadas, 53, who was driving a 2005 Ford F-350 pickup truck, police said.

There were no injuries. Spash received an infraction for failure to drive to the right.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a call from the area of 305 South Main Street about 9:35 pm on August 10, reporting that a motorist driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV northward on South Main Street was driving erratically.

Police located the vehicle in question near 71 South Main Street, after which they watched it drive erratically before stopping it near 40 South Main Street to investigate. Police charged motorist Antonio Morales, 42, of Brookfield, with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. After posting $40 bail, police released Morales for an August 22 court appearance.

Motorcycle Key

Police said August 9 they are continuing to seek the owner of a motorcycle ignition key that was found on July 13 in the area near the intersection of Butterfield Road and Parmalee Hill Road.

Police are holding that key for safekeeping. The key’s owner may contact Officer Adam Greco at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim the key.

Jeep Accident

Motorist Franklin Pintado, 35, of Danbury, was driving eastward on Interstate 84, about 1,000 feet west of Exit 10, when it struck a construction cone on the pavement, about 7:30 am on August 8, state police said. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available,

DUI Arrest

Police report that about 8:02 am on August 8, they investigated the actions of a motorist traveling in the area near the intersection of High Rock Road and New Lebbon Road.

Police said they charged motorist Muhammadhaady Belly, 21, of Manchester with driving under the influence. After processing, police released Belly on $60 bail for an August 22 court appearance.

Over The Center Lines

Police report that motorist Pedro Alvarez, 50, of Newtown was driving a vehicle on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Mt Pleasant Road, at about 9:37 pm on August 7, when Alvarez drove over the roadway’s center lines and collided with an oncoming vehicle.

Neither driver was injured in the collision. After investigating the incident, police took Alvarez into custody, arresting him on charges of driving under the influence and making an improper turn.

Following arrest processing at the police station, police released Alvarez on $500 bail for an August 22 arraignment on the charges before a judge in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.

SUV Into Woods

Motorist Sara Ann Ficks, 23, of Sandy Hook, was driving a 2013 Honda CR-V SUV westward on Castle Hill Road, east of its intersection with Pumpkin Lane, about 5:50 am on August 3, when Ficks attempted to make a turn, but then lost control of the vehicle and drove off the road, landing in a wooded area, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Ficks for failure to drive in the proper lane.

Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road, about 100 feet east of its intersection with Toddy Hill Road, about 4:26 pm on July 29.

In that incident, a 2009 Nissan Maxima sedan driven by Brian Cassidy, 60, of Litchfield, stopped for traffic conditions, as did a 2009 Chevrolet Express van driven by Robert Morelli, 49, of Danbury.

A 2009 Nissan Pathfinder SUV driven by Robert Michael, 45, of Woodbury, then struck the rear end of the Nissan Maxima, pushing that vehicle into the rear end of the Chevrolet. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Michael for following too closely.

About 7 am on August 9, a woman who was driving a Kia Sorento SUV on Main Street, near Newtown general Store, reportedly collded with a lowered lift gate at the rear of a parked tractor-trailer truck, resulting in the Kia rolling over and landing on its roof. The woman was checked my medical staffers at the scene. Police, Newtown Hook & Ladder and Sandy Hook volunteer firefighters were dispatched, as was the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the regional paramedic.
