Business name: Make A Home

Address: 506 Main Street, Monroe

Owners: Anita Pettengill and Dan Telesco

Business background: Anita: December 6 was our grand opening. We chose this location because we liked the store frontage and windows.

Dan: Make A Home is a separate entity to the Make A Home Foundation, but we are affiliated. Make a Home Foundation is a place we have in Newtown that helps homeless people get established into apartments by giving them furniture and household items that they need… we decided to open a store as a for-profit where we would give some of the proceeds back to Make A Home Foundation based on us selling stuff we got from [the foundation]. Some of the [items] we go get ourselves and some comes from [foundation donations].

Business focus: Anita: We like to reuse, repurpose, and recycle. We have anything that you’d want in the home — from antiques and furniture, rattan/wicker to oak and pine and cherry [wood].

Important to know: Anita: Our prices are very reasonable. People can tell us what they need, and we try to accommodate them. Dan is very handy, and we have a couple other artists that work with us. Also, it’s not a consignment shop.

Future events: Anita: We have painting classes. Dates can be found on the website.

Hours: Tuesday through Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm. Closed Monday.
