Margo Jane Siemen Lopez-Cepero, 79, died peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2019, at Newtown Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Newtown.

She is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Henry; and their daughters, Amy Lopez-Cepero and wife, Mieke Vandersall, of New York, N.Y., and Meg Lopez-Cepero and partner, Scott Raigel, of Beverly Hills, Calif. Margo will also be fondly remembered by her numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Born in Cambridge, Mass., on May 25, 1940, Margo was raised in Harvard, Mass. She was the second child born to the late John Lester and Jane Whitney Siemen, and the sibling to the late Peter Siemen of Paxton, Mass., and the late Melinda Siemen Woodside of Amstelveen, the Netherlands.

After graduating from The Bromfield School in 1958, she attended both Westbrook College and University of Bridgeport, where she trained as a teacher and earned her BS in Elementary Education in 1962.

A longtime resident of Sandy Hook since 1969, Margo will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving and supportive mother, loyal friend, outgoing neighbor, and passionate community activist. While raising her daughters, she worked for many years as a substitute teacher in the Newtown school system. She was an avid traveler, a surprise May basket maker and giver, and a lover of tunes, words, and rhymes. Always a kind and caring citizen, she was a volunteer for both Meals on Wheels and Regional Hospice.

Two of Margo’s greatest joys in life were going for scenic rides in the little convertible with her Dovie and spending time at her family’s summer cottage in Wolf’s Neck, Maine. Among her Wolf’s Neck community, she was known for being a founding member of the Wolf’s Neck Girls, keeping watch over the stone wharf, and creating mischief with her sister, Linny. Margo was a compassionate, fun-loving woman who had a twinkle in her eye. She touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

A private memorial will take place in Wolf’s Neck, Maine.
