The Garden Club of Newtown’s 65th Anniversary celebration, rescheduled a few times last year and again earlier this year, is now planned for Tuesday, September 21.

All are invited to join members of the club for the special event. It will run from 11 am until 2:30 pm.

Hats are encouraged.

Tickets are $55, which includes full lunch at Rock Ridge Country Club, 214 Sugar Street, 10 tickets for a raffle, and a program by guest speaker Ellen Ecker Ogden.

Ogden, an award-winning kitchen garden designer who lives in Vermont, is planning to present “The Art of Growing Food: Designed for Cooks Who Love to Garden.”

The presentation is based on Ecker Ogden’s latest release, The New Heirloom Garden.

Ecker Ogden is also the author of The Complete Kitchen Garden, The Vermont Cheese Book, and The Vermont Country Store Cookbook. Her articles and kitchen garden designs have been featured in The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Martha Stewart Living, Garden Design, Better Homes and Gardens, and Eating Well, among others.

Her lectures teach kitchen garden design for cooks who love to garden, sharing tips on what to grow for flavor and charm.

Contact Garden Club President Peggy Jepsen (peggyjepsen@frontier.com) for details and reservations.

Tickets purchased for any of the previously scheduled dates will still be honored..

Ellen Ecker Ogden will speak on “The Art of Growing Food” during the Garden Club of Newtown’s 65th/66th Anniversary celebration next month.
