Four-month-old Flapjack Shortstack — nicknamed Flap — is a sweet, special kitty at Kitten Associates in Sandy Hook in need of the community’s help. Flap was born with his right rear leg twisted backwards and both front legs bent at the carpal joint.

After speaking with a number of specialists, Kitten Associates President/Founder Robin A.F. Olson believes the abnormalities occurred due to his mother conceiving at only 5 months old and not having room in her uterus for all four of her kittens.

Flap is undergoing weekly physical therapy and is being worked with daily to help him learn how to get around better. Thanks to the work of Kitten Associates, Flap will not need a leg amputation.

For his front legs, they are doing short-term bandaging and looking into 3D leg wraps as well as reaching out to The Supervet in the United Kingdom for assistance. Flap is also seeing Dr Deb Weisman at Newtown Veterinary Specialists (NVS) regularly to evaluate his needs.

Flap is currently being fostered with his sister, Sugarsnaps Sugarpants, and the two enjoy spending time together.

“His sister dotes on him and is so adorable and hilarious, they will definitely be a precious pair when the time comes for them to find their forever home,” Ms Olson said. “If someone is willing to wait, they can pre-apply now, but they have to have a glowing vet reference and I’d prefer they have a good deal of carpeted floors, so Flap can get around if we can’t get his front legs straightened.”

Flap’s other sister, Tickle Nurbington, and her buddies Boom-Boom McGillicuddy and Trinket Worthmore will be ready to be adopted out mid-September.

Kitten Associates is also looking for adults over the age of 18 who have experience with cats and can volunteer to spend 30 to 60 minutes with Flap and the kittens to help socialize them.
