Newtown Road Race 5K and Kids’ Run — Saturday, September 2, 9 am, Dickinson Park. Proceeds benefit Newtown Youth Services. Individuals of all ages welcome: runners, walkers, jogging strollers. Entry forms are available at Newtown Youth Services or online at NewtownRoadRace.com or Active.com. This is a USATF-sanctioned event on a certified scenic course through Newtown. Entry fee is $20 in advance, or $25 on race day. Kids pay their age up to $10.

Shop For A Cause — The Newtown Youth Services’ High School Youth Advisory Board Members will be selling tickets for shopping at Macy’s special Support for Nonprofit Organizations Sale Day. The date is Saturday, September 16, from 9 am to 10 pm. Purchase a ticket from any YAB member for $5 and 100 percent of the proceeds will got to its Scholarship Fund.

Ticket holders will be entitled to a 20 percent discount off purchases and for every $50 spent, receive a $10 coupon for use at a future date. For ticket information, call Newtown Youth Services at 270-4335.

Parent Programs

Hope and Support meets on Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Parents or guardians with questions or concerns about a child’s possible or confirmed involvement with substances are welcome to attend this group.

Grandparents’ Group — The Second Time Around: Raising Your Children’s Children is an ongoing support program. This group meets Wednesdays 12 to 1:30 pm. There is no fee.
